Bhaktapur beating: Third injured dies

10/07/2009

Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU , July 10 - Basanta Lama, who was beaten up at Chapacho in Thimi along with his three other friends on Tuesday for an alleged abduction attempt, succumbed to his injuries at the B & B hospital in Gwarko in Lalitpur.

The hospital declared Lama dead on Friday afternoon.

Lama, who was critically injured along with his three friends, was admitted at the hospital after the Thimi locals vented their ire on them after they were falsely accused of attempting to abduct school kids. Jeewan Magar and Sabin Mahat Chhetri died on the same day.

Saroj Rai, the fourth injured, is still undergoing treatment at the same hospital. His condition is said to be critical.

Lama, student of ninth grade at the Navajyoti English School, originally hailed from Ramechhap district and was living in Naya Thimi, Bhaktapur.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s father refused to receive the body till the guilty are booked.

Earlier today, the relatives and supporters of Magar and Chhetri picketed the Bhaktapur district administration demanding compensation to the bereaved families and action against the guilty.
